Donald A. Hopkins, 79, of Dunmore, died Saturday from injuries received after being struck by a vehicle on January 2. His wife, and love of his life, is the former Mary Kay Urbanick. They were teenage sweethearts and married for fifty five years. Born Feb 2, 1938, son of the late Andrew and Winifred Mahady Hopkins, he was a 1956 graduate of Scranton Technical High School and a member of Immaculate Conception Church. He was a fourth degree Knight. Prior to retirement, he was employed for thirty five years by Bell Telephone as a cable technician, where he also worked tirelessly as a union steward. A ten year US Navy Corpman reserve. Donald was a quiet and compassionate man. He worked as a paracounselor for the former "Rap House," making breakfast for the less fortunate, oftentimes starting at 5am and then heading to Bell Telephone. He had a great love for his Irish heritage and loved political conversations, history, reading, and napping. He also loved walking, riding his bicycle,and working on his home in the Hill section. Donald was a devoted husband who enjoyed driving his beloved wife wherever she wanted to go. He especially cherished travelling to South Carolina in their motor coach with their pets to visit their son and grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Also surviving are a son, Dr. Andrew Hopkins; three beautiful grandchildren, Delaney, Bryce, and Kendall; two sisters, Sandra Hopkins, and Rusty Palumbo and husband, Louis, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved pets, Trouble and Sparky. He was predeceased by a sister Nancy McGarry and her husband Ray McGarry and a brother Jerome Hopkins. The family would like to express sincere thanks to all who attended him in the ICU at Geisinger CMC and worked feverishly to save his life. His last hours were made as comfortable as possible despite the many injuries he suffered. The funeral will be Thursday at 9:00am from the McGoff-Hughes Funeral Home, Inc., 1401 Capouse Ave, Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am at the Immaculate Conception Church, Taylor Ave. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Friends may call Wednesday from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the SPCA
